Year 4 Step Back in Time on Roman Adventure
.png)
Year 4 pupils took a journey into the past to explore what life was like during the Roman occupation of Britain.
Park Road Community Primary School’s trip to Chester brought history off the page and into the streets, kitchens and amphitheatres once used by real Roman citizens and soldiers.
The day began with hands-on activities designed to reveal the routines and skills of Roman daily life. Pupils visited a reconstructed Roman kitchen, where they ground spices using traditional tools and discovered how food was prepared nearly two thousand years ago. They then tried creating their own mosaics, placing tiny tiles to build patterns inspired by archaeological finds.
Students also tested their engineering ability by assembling roof structures using Roman methods.
The day then moved outdoors, where the class took up shields and joined a Roman-style march through the streets of Chester.
The final stop was Chester’s historic amphitheatre. Here, pupils learned about various army formations and got the chance to practice with their classmates.
What a great trip!
