Year 6 children took their history learning outside of the classroom by visiting Western Approaches in Liverpool.

The Park Road Community Primary School pupils took part in the trip to understand more about how World War 2 impacted on their local area and as part of their history curriculum learning.

The visit proved to be an eye-opening experience, shedding light on the crucial roles of women, rationing, code-breaking, and providing a deeper understanding of the Blitz.

Now a museum, the bunker which became known as Western Approaches Command as it monitored the rectangular area of the Atlantic Ocean lying immediately to the west of the British Isles, made Liverpool an important strategic position in the Second World War.

During the visit the pupils were transported back in time, immersing themselves in the stories and artifacts that vividly depict the challenges and sacrifices faced by the people of Liverpool during the war. The visit was a journey of remembrance and discovery, offering a unique glimpse into the past.

What a great trip Year 6!
