Park Road Community Primary School marked World Book Day with a full day of activities designed to promote a love of reading across the school.

Pupils and staff spent the day celebrating the theme of “reading for fun,” taking part in a variety of engaging and book‑focused experiences.

The day began with children gathering in the school hall, where they were encouraged to get cosy with their friends and enjoy books they had brought from home. Those who wanted to explore something new were able to spend time choosing and reading stories from the school library.

This whole‑school reading session created a calm and welcoming atmosphere, allowing pupils to immerse themselves in books right from the start of the day.

Throughout the morning, classes took part in activities linked to specific authors, stories, or genres. Teachers designed tasks to help pupils think more deeply about characters, settings, and themes, while still keeping the emphasis firmly on enjoyment. These activities varied across year groups but all aimed to foster creativity, curiosity, and a deeper connection with reading.

Pupils and staff also dressed for the occasion, arriving at school in either comfortable reading‑themed clothing or in costumes inspired by their favourite book characters!

Great work everyone!
